Very few things makes us as happy as finding artists that break the monotonous and saturated music industry. We usually encourage new, unsigned, unknown artists to send us their music, because we know there is more talent out there than the media sets us to believe. Usually the majority of talent is found in the underbelly of the sound beast, deep down behind the superficial fluff and candy coated crap we get gorged with every day. From time to time, something consistent and fresh like Damien Ike comes along and gives us the strength to fight the good fight.
Some up-and-comers (preferably talented), feel like a summer breeze. Others like Mt Wolf, makes us think that Summer will be coming early this year. Get ready to fall in love...
2015 has officially begun (about 2 weeks ago) and so has our pursuit for the next new artist worth discovering. We've probably (definitely) mentioned before our love of finding new music and sharing it with the world and today, for the first time in 2015, we get to do just that. May we introduce to you our very first Discovery of the year: The Everglows...
On our most recent quest for new talent, we've found something special. American band Clones of Clones is special because they have the ability to take us back to our youth, our debut as young music lovers back in the 90s'. Makes sense, since they describe themselves as “a slightly mutated test tube baby of your favorite rock bands.”. Puts a smile on our face honestly.
We re big fans of simplicity here at Ears Peeled. We really are. We see it as classic, instead of boring, think it is much too underrated and should be considered a little more in everything in life. We do however love our occasional touch of Funk in everything to keep things interesting, mind you. But we don't think we were expecting what Aussie duo, Casper Cult had in store for us with 'Industrial Love'. It's modern and chaotic almost but has a sort of yin-yang quality in it. It's a weird description. Allow us to explain...
They instantly remind us of Kings Of Leon, so that alone says a lot. It’s hard to channel such a super band but they pull it off by adding their own personal touch. The Reveurs have a striking bass/cymbals combination that only surpassed by the amazing guitar solos. In short, they are good.
Finding new artists is one of the best parts of writing about music but not always the easiest: there are A LOT of good ones, but few great ones. To be worth mentioning or noticed, they usually need that ‘wow’ factor that makes you want to possess their music, not just listen to it. That certain je-ne-sais-quoi that has you craving for more is absolutely mandatory. With that in mind, I give you Liam Dutch.
We've just published their song 'My Type' as Song Of The Day, and it's easy to see why. We were so enthralled by it that we just went ahead and delved a little deeper into Saint Motel. So let's get a little bit more information on a small band called Saint Motel....
These days, I have more of a penchant for the indie rock type of bands, you know the kind that remind me of The 1975 or Bombay Bicycle Club. So was pretty happy to find the band Coasts (not to be confused with Coast), late last night. They fit the profile perfectly and was more than happy to go to bed late listening to their very very good songs. Here's what I found out about them...
I was feeling sad that I couldn't find a new artist that would catch my ears and give me that warm feeling inside. Was getting saturated with all the mainstream artists (some of them are good don't get me wrong!), but was longing for something new. That breath of fresh air. Not necessarily something unheard of but something different. I think I might have found it in Charlie Cunningham.
