Twenty one year old and hailing from Surrey, Liam Dutch has only started with actual song writing start of 2013, following years of playing drums for others. It was only a few months after picking up the guitar that the inspiration for song-writing followed. He describes the whole process as: “quite natural”. With only a few months of learning, he proven he’s a gifted guitarist, thanks to song like ‘Carousels’ (our personal favourite) or ‘Rocks’.
He enjoys the frequent comparison to one of his favourite artists, Jake Bugg, but would much rather be known as the original Liam Dutch instead of the next [Insert artist name]. He does, however, cite as inspiration Alex Turner of the Arctic Monkeys and Ian Curtis of Joy Division, especially for their writing skills. He favours the implicit approach when it comes to writing his own lyrics, leaving “people to interpret them in their own way […]”.
So far he’s been playing both drums and guitar on every track, but is in the process of forming a band. He’s experienced gig-ing various times as a drummer, but just once as a solo artist. His plan is to get people to discover and like his music first, get to a ‘comfortable’ level with it, before going public.
One step at the time.
