Very few things makes us as happy as finding artists that break the monotonous and saturated music industry. We usually encourage new, unsigned, unknown artists to send us their music, because we know there is more talent out there than the media sets us to believe. Usually the majority of talent is found in the underbelly of the sound beast, deep down behind the superficial fluff and candy coated crap we get gorged with every day. From time to time, something consistent and fresh like Damien Ike comes along and gives us the strength to fight the good fight.
This young man from East London creates some of the warmest, cheerful sound that feels fresh and unheard before, but never so much that it's not relatable. Listening to songs like "Kingdom Come", even if you've only heard it for the first time, you feel like you've known Damien Ike your whole life, it seems you've been singing along to his tunes for years. You listen to it a second time and he's already you're favourite artist.
It's no surprise his music is so good, with collaborations such Rich Cooper (who has worked with one of our personal favourites Josef Salvat), Sasha Skarbek (Adele, Lana Del Rey), David Kosten (Everything Everything, Bat for Lashes and Marina & The Diamonds)... should we go on? With his talent and basically the creme de la creme of producers, bad music is impossible.
So we'll be waiting for new music, hopefully very (very) soon. Next week maybe?
While we wait, see what we mean by listening to "Kingdom Come" right below:
