Listening to a few new pop bands, I've noticed one thing: most of them have that late 80's/early 90's synth pop feel to them. Unfortunately, it's a very tricky genre to master and not every band is aware of that fact and even less able to pull it off. Some of them do extremely well, like Hurts (check them out here and here), others... let's just say, not so much.
I discovered Josh Record by accident only today. I heard his song "Bones" and wanted to know more about him. Turns out he's a new comer who's album is coming out pretty soon, November 24th actually. So this Sunday!
Some artists you kinda of stumble upon and then you get stuck. It's just something about the sound that captures you.
While doing my usual band hunting, I've stumbled upon Angus Powell. A young musician from Wales making a more folk-y, acoustic kind of sound. Very soothing, it's a perfect representation of his whole music making process: organic and raw.
From time to time, I like to look for new artists, people who's sound has not been yet discovered but should be. Sometimes I spend days looking, and find nothing. Other lucky days, I get to find 1-2 worth while. It doesn't really matter the genre, as long as they are good at what they do. I've found a few lately and was debating whether to have a page especially for them... I guess you know what the outcome of that debate is.
From now on, this section will be for the up and comers, artists on their way to their well deserved fame. Good Luck to them. |
