I must say, this is not the type of artist that you will find very often on my blog. Not that they aren't good. They're just not my kind of music. So to have one featured here, is in my eyes a big thing. Especially when I had never heard about them before today. It was completely by chance that I heard one of Jez Dior's songs, and that was about 5 songs ago. So there has to be something there to keep me wanting more...
I love being one of the first to "discover" a brand new artist, but sometimes, turns out I am more than the last to do so. Sometimes, I arrive years too late and start talking about it as if the band had formed the day before. In fact, sometimes, some bands have already broken up! This is one case where they are still together but I've only JUST found out about them.
Been a while since I had found a new artist worth writing about. Was all about the more established bands or Songs of the Day. But today, as I took the time to relax and appreciate a few songs, I came across a band named The 1957 Tail-Fin Fiasco. Yes, the name is long and bizarre but there is more to this band than an unusual name...
I was on the edge of giving up finding new artists worth writing about on here, when browsing a list of promising new artists, published by NME, I happened to discover Wet.
It seems that 2014 is starting pretty well when it comes to music and boy, am I glad! I've just made my first discovery of the year.
I am a big fan of quirky and "unexpected" sound, that's why I hold bands such as Crystal Fighters or Caught A Ghost really close to my heart. So imagine my joy when I happen to come across Seattle Yacht Club.
Randomly rummaging through the tons of new indie music on the internet, not expecting to find much on this boring wednesday night, when I happen to stumble upon a few really good tracks. Some of them are actually so new, they've no videos on youtube and are virtually impossible to download or even find. If these are the new rising artists, 2014 is setting up to be a pretty decent year for music... Indie music at least!
Some of the gems include: Listening to a few new pop bands, I've noticed one thing: most of them have that late 80's/early 90's synth pop feel to them. Unfortunately, it's a very tricky genre to master and not every band is aware of that fact and even less able to pull it off. Some of them do extremely well, like Hurts (check them out here and here), others... let's just say, not so much.
I discovered Josh Record by accident only today. I heard his song "Bones" and wanted to know more about him. Turns out he's a new comer who's album is coming out pretty soon, November 24th actually. So this Sunday!
Some artists you kinda of stumble upon and then you get stuck. It's just something about the sound that captures you.
