These days, I have more of a penchant for the indie rock type of bands, you know the kind that remind me of The 1975 or Bombay Bicycle Club. So was pretty happy to find the band Coasts (not to be confused with Coast), late last night. They fit the profile perfectly and was more than happy to go to bed late listening to their very very good songs. Here's what I found out about them...
Though it was their latest track, excellent by the way, "Golden City" that got me interested, it was "Oceans" that made me fall in love. But before we start on the actual music, here are some info about the band itself:
A 5 piece band from Bristol, that seems to have decidedly chosen the indie path. Created in 2011, they cite Arctic Monkeys, Foals and The Cure as their musical influence and favorite bands (they have great taste!).
They have been touring all across the UK non-stop and are still on the road right now, with their next gigs on May 8-10 in Brighton, performing at The Great Escape 2014, before heading to London in June (for future dates click here).
The quality of their songs resides in the catchy guitar riffs and incredible drum beats. They're the kind that will build up your high with a nice slow progression and have you hand bang just when you start to think that you couldn't get any higher. I like that the lyrics aren't dumb or senseless, it's not uncommon to have either a great melody OR great lyrics, but Coasts has it all.
And that makes me happy.
