One of their (many) main qualities is their incredibly stylish, polished, smart, and monochromatic look. Just look at those images and tell me I'm lying!!
Hurts are a British very talented pop-synth band, with dramatic music and shows. Their music are, as they describe it themselves, "Emotional Pop Music". So if you feel sad, desperate or melancholic, you've hit the jackpot! Seriously. Their first album "Happiness" (2010) was a masterpiece in itself with melodies to soothe or break ones heart. Songs like "Stay" or "Unspoken" have the power to bring tears to your eyes 3 years later and make you feel like you're listening for the first time, every time! I don't know if if the words, the melody, the voices, the amazing band, or a combination of all that.
They've recently released their second album "Exile" (03/13). They've changed their sound, but not the soul of Hurts. It's still there. The band describes the new album as "dirtier. fuzzier. wilder." and believe me, it is! More sexual, dark, and yet all at the same time, terribly romantic.

Reading this you'd probably think these are perfect suicide albums, but worry not, they also have a few upbeat tunes, more in the second album than the first one (Happiness) though. Songs like (and pay no attention to the titles) "Somebody to die for" "Help" or "Heaven" (Exile) and "Sunday" "Wonderful Life" or "Better than Love" (Happiness) have an upbeat tempo, really catchy melodies but the theme is actually sad. It creates a contrast that I love.
And it's this "practice of the opposites" in everything, even their personalities, that's actually, in my opinion, the reason to their success, why their songs are just so beautiful and how they manage to connect with people around the globe.
Their music is universal. Simple as that.
After an extended Summer festival tour this year, (they must have played in every single festival in Europe during the summer) they've kicked off a new European tour since yesterday, starting in Kiev. I was not there, unfortunately. However, looking at the videos and pictures everywhere online, I think it went really well. A good way to start a new tour.
Some complaints were made by fans about the set list not being too Exile-y; I agree but the never ending hope in me and a few comments made by band member Adam Anderson himself via an instagram Q&A (http://instagram.com/p/eVcT5pI1y7/), keeps me believing that it will progressively change. Fingers crossed!

You're welcome. Welcome to Hurts Family ;)
