Been a while since I had found a new artist worth writing about. Was all about the more established bands or Songs of the Day. But today, as I took the time to relax and appreciate a few songs, I came across a band named The 1957 Tail-Fin Fiasco. Yes, the name is long and bizarre but there is more to this band than an unusual name...
Their latest EP, "The Cruise Control EP" is out since the end of last year, october to be more precise, and counts 4 tracks (available here). But they've already been mentioned on The Mixtape on BBC 6 Music, been chosen by Tom Robinson on Fresh On The Net music blog, and been added on playlists on various different radio shows, thanks to their previous songs, including "Clean Break", posted below.
So in short, I'm the one who's late here. Oops.
While investigating them, something I've noticed (and amused me quite a bit), was the description of how they came to be. It is one the most original "About Us" section I've ever read on a band's website. Loved it. They go all the way in their bizarrerie. Just thought I had to put that out there.
So, another aspect of their, let's call it uniqueness, is that I'm not really sure how to categorize them; I do however like the eclectic-ness that this creates. They are a little pop-rock and a lot country (oh yes, I went there). There is always the old country atmosphere lurking behind, even when the feel is more rock like the song "Cruise Control".
Now, I am not a big country fan, aside from some classics like Johnny Cash of course, but there was something about those songs that just kept me listening. Some of the songs like for "Breakfast of Kings" I can easily explain; the chord change in the chorus just won me over, others, like "The Legend of Josi & the Juke", I don't know. Everytime I listened to it, it was like a story I was following and had to know the end.
I am not going to lie, some lyrics were as bizarre as the name of the band but somehow it was okay. Just fine. Which I think is pretty funny honestly, given that I can't really explain what the songs are about. But let's just call them abstract/mystical, and enjoy the good music.
