I must say, this is not the type of artist that you will find very often on my blog. Not that they aren't good. They're just not my kind of music. So to have one featured here, is in my eyes a big thing. Especially when I had never heard about them before today. It was completely by chance that I heard one of Jez Dior's songs, and that was about 5 songs ago. So there has to be something there to keep me wanting more...
It was a song that he collaborated on with MDNT, called "Dreamcatcher", that got me interested in the beginning. While I was listening to it on Soundcloud (have a listen here), the song finished and as one of the recommendations, Jez Dior's songs came on. I was hooked. Simple as that. Every time I tried to close the window and move on to a new artist to discover, I couldn't. There was always the after-this-last-song keeping me from clicking.
There is a bit of Lupe Fiasco in his sound that I like, but he also adds a certain rock vibe that reminds me of Linking Park (maybe it's his voice?). Sometimes, he uses killer dubstep beats which blends beautifully with the main hip hop style, and the whole thing is tied together with AWESOMENESS.
I swear, I kept repeating to myself "this is awesome". There is just no other words to describe it.
I find that his song "Blue" is the best, using Eiffel 65's smash hit, the way he did is borderline genius. Aside from that tune, I count two others to round up the top 3: "Candles" and "Nice Day" that I think are both beautiful. One I'm not so much of a fan is "West Coast". A bit too rap/hip-hop for my taste. Never been a fan of too many "bitch" and "fucks" in a song, very prude of me. I know. Sue me.
But I think that one or two songs out of 20 is still a good grade. Plus, I'm not saying they are bad, just my least favorite, because when you take the time to listen, they are great songs. Even the least good songs are good!
I don't know how he does it, but I hope he never stops.
