The Hurts boys's year in images
First band named is: HURTS!
They are the band that started it all for me, REALLY got me into music this year. After discovering them by accident with "Stay" from their first album, I got hooked and never looked back. They've blown my mind and open my eyes to all the beautiful music in this world, just in time before their second album.
They've been quite often mentioned here on this blog (see here and here), being excellent and all, so it's only natural that they'd be the first one named, and #1 band of the year for me.
From releasing a new album "Exile" in March, to touring most of the world, the boys have been very, very busy.
They've performed at (almost every) major Summer festivals, from UK to Japan, including Rock im Park and Rock Am Ring (Germany), Gurten Festival (Switzerland), Volt (Hungary) and Glastonbury (UK)... They've released 3 official singles, "Miracle", "Blind" and "Somebody To Die For", and 2 covers, Oasis's "Wonderwall" and German artist Selig's "Ohne Dich"(a B-Side from the "Somebody To Die For" single).
Videos were made, 4 to be exact: the 3 singles and "Ohne Dich". There was a first darker video made for "Miracle", but it was later remade into a rockier version. Eyes were almost lost while filming the "Blind" video (not a joke!) and dehydration was always just around the corner for "Somebody To Die For". The "Ohne Dich" video was the simplest, representing the guys recording session for said song.
Hurts's simplicity at it's best.
They've performed at the uber-fancy yet perfectly suited (no pun intended again!) Dior Homme Fashion Show in Beijing, even posing for a photoshoot after wearing the designer's amazing apparel.
During the Summer, Hurts singer Theo Hutchcraft appeared in Calvin Harris's "Thinking About You" video, all the while working on a collaboration with superstar DJ Alesso and previously mentioned Harris, that would be officially release on October 7th. I am talking about the mega House hit "Under Control", which got to #1 on the UK Music Charts in December. The video for the song premiered on October 21th on Calvin Harris's Vevo, with more than 2M views in 1 day. It featured both DJs and Theo Hutchcraft partying with a lot of very beautiful scantily clad women, while waiting for the end of days... as you should!
They've recently went to California to start recording the new album, that as they've said in new interviews should be coming out next year. They've just wrapped up the second part of the Exile tour, but are already booked to perform on Art on Ice next February/March.
Now that the year is ending, the boys are taking some well deserved rest, spending holidays at home with the family and getting ready for another fully packed year.
Wishing them the best, more success and much more great music (for us!).
