I love house music. Even if you notice that the music I usually talk about is alternative or ballads or pop, house is one of my main loves. I can spend a whole day listening to only that without any problems. My wake up and feel good playlist are constituted of more than 80% house music, that's just the way I guarantee my good mood and high production levels for the day.
After only a little more than a month since their debut album, "If You Wait", has come out, London Grammar is taking over the radio airwaves with their hit "Strong". This British indie-pop trio is fantastic; their sound is dramatic and different. It's a mix of ambient electronic with soulful alternative.
Bastille is a British band, from London, that started off in 2010 as a solo act by Dan Smith (lead singer, keyboard and percussion) but ended as a four member band including: Chris 'Woody' Wood (drums), Will Farquarson (bass, keyboard and acoustic guitar) and Kyle Simmons (keyboard and percussion). Dan does lead vocals and the three others are the backup.
When you look at the boys from Bastille, the first word that comes to mind is "Quirky". Why? Just look at them! They are band shirt, nerdy glasses, sneakers wearing guys. Basically your guy next-next-door. They seem totally approachable and based on different fan made videos, they are actually sweethearts... and oh so funny! One of their (many) main qualities is their incredibly stylish, polished, smart, and monochromatic look. Just look at those images and tell me I'm lying!! Hurts are a British very talented pop-synth band, with dramatic music and shows. Their music are, as they describe it themselves, "Emotional Pop Music". So if you feel sad, desperate or melancholic, you've hit the jackpot! Seriously. Their first album "Happiness" (2010) was a masterpiece in itself with melodies to soothe or break ones heart. Songs like "Stay" or "Unspoken" have the power to bring tears to your eyes 3 years later and make you feel like you're listening for the first time, every time! I don't know if if the words, the melody, the voices, the amazing band, or a combination of all that.
They've recently released their second album "Exile" (03/13). They've changed their sound, but not the soul of Hurts. It's still there. The band describes the new album as "dirtier. fuzzier. wilder." and believe me, it is! More sexual, dark, and yet all at the same time, terribly romantic. |
