Originally from South Africa, Afro House is already spreading like wild fires across the globe, with massive followings mainly in Europe, especially in Portugal and UK, but in many clubs in the US as well. A mix of Kwaito and house, it's gaining an ever expanding fan club in Haiti but with a "national" twist; DJ's choose Haitian songs instead of the traditional Kwaito to mix with the house beats.
One of said DJs is 29 year old David Chatelain. Native of the sunny Caribbean island of Haiti, he is a fan of the genre, whose work has already been noticed by American DJ Ian Carey. He is currently working in a collaboration with Cedric Roy, as DJ Duo DzGot.

David took the time to answer our 5 Questions:
1-When did you start DJ-ing?
I started around the age of 12. I use to practice at a radio station after class on a DENON 2800. Back then, there wasn't any DJ-ing software, so the whole process was very old school.
2- Why Afro-House?
I identify with this genre. I think it creates a harmonious blend between electronic music and other elements specific to Haitian culture. The rhythm brings me back to my roots. When we say house music, you automatically see Sweden, Germany or Europe in general, but I want to show that Africa and the Caribbean have a spot too, that they can also make a contribution.
3-What would be your dream collaboration and why?
Well, right now I'm loving working with (other DJ) Cedric Roy for DzGot because we complement each other. But aside from him I think my choices would be DJeff Afrozilla or DJ Xtrio. They are the people, I believe, have mastered the art of Afro-House the best. They make awesome music and it's a great opportunity to learn.
4-Do you ever think about playing something else than Afro-House?
I can play anything really, but I don't want to be one of those DJs that play anything and everything. I want to be different and be identified by my origins and my culture.
5-What is your favorite song right now?
That would be "Matimba" by Homeboyz Music. The beat is just too hot!
