It’s dance, but it’s not just dance music. It somehow sounds deeper. It’s almost philosophical, it feels as if every time one of Max Elto's tracks gets played, you want to sit down and have a deep conversation about where this world is going (but please don’t).
If you are a big EDM fan, you might just recognize their voice from David Guetta mega hit "Just One Last Time" back in 2012. You might not, however recognise their name. Back then, they were still known as Taped Rai. But with a new moniker, they focus on making progressive and bold music.
The songs from their most recent EP, Taped Rai EP (January 2014), all have a dystopian feel to them that is reinforced by the always futuristic/modern videos. Songs like ‘Citylights’, despite the euphoric feeling they create, picture a very lonely world that runs only on despair and a most likely unhappy ending.
Max Elto’s songs are (to us!) the musical interpretation of George Orwell’s ‘1984’, with a song for each main aspect of the novel: the description of the city with the previously mentioned ‘Citylights’, the state of the population through ‘Backyard Animals’, the relationship between Winston and Julia, depicted through “Shadow Of The Sun”, or the mental and physical torture scene with “Daniel”. Honestly, we could go all day…
Since dance music is usually so cheery and positive, the contrast is what makes it so attractive. The images that you get from listening might be dark or grey but they make you float above all the shitty things the world might be throwing at you.
In short: we're loving it.
