Ed Cares's band, CHILDCARE, has released their debut, "Flush EP" since the 27th of October via Best Laid Plans Records. We had previously mentioned the band and it's two most popular songs before on our Twitter page. We didn't have a post about him however... maybe we were waiting for the EP release? Shame on us anyway! Keep reading to see why we think "Flush EP" is ace and why you should definitely become a fan...
There aren't much negative things to say about 'Flush EP'. In fact the only disappointing thing about it is the number of tracks. Maybe it's a marketing strategy; after "Hanging On The Telephone" ends, you're left craving for more, feeling that will create a buzz around Ed Cares and propel him to (his much deserved) Zion!
The playlist includes as opening track, our favourite and much buzzed about "Gotta Wait", which is, without a ghost of a doubt what a headbanger should sound like. It's rock, it's pop, it's punk, it's perfect. The song puts you straight into the ambiance of a mosh pit... in a good way. It was our first time hearing the second ( the title) track. The electronic side of it reminded us of a pinball machine, but the slower tempo makes for a proper tune. Though "Kimberly" starts with an interesting intro and awesome rock guitar riff, it's the one who's more evoking of today's indie pop sound and then you get hit with a rock and roll chorus. You were tricked in the beginning by the whispered: "Kimberly (x3) made me do it / It was Kimberly (x3) who put me up to it [...]" but the frantic but quiet percussion (silent but deadly?) should have been a dead giveaway of what you were in for. And the ending track (*tear*) is the popular and brilliant cover of Blondie's "Don't Leave Me Hanging On The Telephone". Multiple times an earworm and never gets old. We've heard maybe every cover, from the 60's pop to the hardcore metal of this song and believe us, there are good ones and there are bad ones, but this version is obviously in the top two of the first category.
Bottom line: "Flush EP" is short but amazing. As we said before, leaves you wanting more and more, so we are crossing our fingers that Ed Cares won't rest now that it is out, and instead, will work on releasing a full studio album with maybe... 18+ tracks? Coming out, say... earlier next year? *wide grin*
